2020 Flashback shows how OTT advertising transformed last year
2020 saw a global breadth of change that was staggering. Virtually no aspect of life was left untouched. For marketers, especially, it meant a complete rethink of their craft. Consumer habits transformed, as did their demands; media consumption altered, as did the media landscape; brands needed to not just reposition themselves, but also reach audiences through altered messaging and on different platforms; budgets were slashed, but the expectations from marketing widened.
It was a whole new world with an unprecedented set of challenges.
On the media spends front, the shift towards digital accelerated OTT became a force to be reckoned with. The share of OTT platforms among e-commerce, media, entertainment and social media advertisers rose from 61% in March 2020 to 87% in April 2020 alone.(1)
